MJ Sections was delighted to welcome Cat Eccles MP for Stourbridge and Alex Ballinger MP for Halesowen to its headquarters on Friday 10th July for an important discussion on the future of the UK steel and aerospace sectors.
The visit gave Steve Cresswell and Elle Lewis the opportunity to discuss the recently introduced UK steel tariffs and the impact they are expected to have on businesses throughout the UK aerospace supply chain. With manufacturers continuing to adapt to changing market conditions, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to ensure the concerns of local industry were heard.
Although the new tariffs came into effect on 1st July, the Government has committed to reviewing their impact regularly. Following discussions with Chris McDonald, Minister for Industry at the Department for Business and Trade, it has been agreed that reviews will now take place every two weeks during the initial 12 month period.
Cat Eccles MP and Alex Ballinger MP confirmed that these fortnightly reviews will be informed by evidence submitted by businesses through their local MPs, who will then relay this information directly to Chris McDonald.
Steve Cresswell said:
“Our message to industry is simple. Please report any adverse trading conditions resulting from these tariffs to your local MP. This information will feed directly into Chris McDonald’s bi-weekly reviews and help ensure the Government fully understands the impact these changes are having on UK businesses.”
Without this feedback, the Government may not be aware of the challenges being experienced across the supply chain, making it even more important for manufacturers and distributors to share their experiences.
